Interview with Jason Goodrich

I received an email on Facebook from a friend of Jason recommending him for the magazine.  I quickly took a look at the pictures posted on his page and gave him a firm two thumbs up!!  After our first conversation over the phone I could tell he was bright but when we met for his first photo shoot I quickly realized not only was he smart but a really nice guy.  I got to know him a little more over some drinks after the shoot and while he talked to me about his parents, how he grew up and even past relationships; in my head I was running through all my single girlfriends who would be perfect for him.  Smart, educated, ambitious, a hot body, great manners, amazing smile in other words ladies a catch!!

Tell us a little bit about yourself Jason.

My age is a secret I have to keep the ladies guessing!  My family is Jamaican and I have a younger brother, Paul, who now writes for the magazine!  I’m also a father; I have an 11 year old daughter named Jordan who is my princess.

The question all the ladies want to know – are you single?

Yes, I’m single at the moment.

Do you prefer being single or in a relationship?

Right now, being single is the best thing for me. I’m totally focused on myself and growing my business. I was in the right relationship, but I was always focused on the future. I never allowed myself to be in the moment. That is not a good thing, for your present shapes your future and it took me hitting rock bottom losing everything (job, girl, direction) to realize that.  Things have been on the upswing for nearly 5 months now and my business is growing.  I’ve got myself together and made the necessary changes to move my life forward. I’m in the best shape of my life and I feel like my old “Cocky” self again! Don’t worry ladies…..there’s no arrogance just a new energy……a new “swag!”

It sounds like your all work and no play, what do you do when you get a little free time?

In my free time I love to play basketball, take boxing lessons, Bikram Yoga, run, train, read, and write poetry.

How has being a father changed your views on life?

Yes, I had to learn that I am living for more than myself now. Everything I do, every decision I make can have an impact whether directly or indirectly on her well being. There is a different form of decision making that comes with having a child.  Every day I’m reminded how blessed I am to have her in my life.

What qualities do you look for in a woman?

Being attractive is a given. However, I love a woman that works out and takes care of herself. I also place a heavy emphasis on intelligence and communication. Looks can fade, so having a best friend who enjoys your company and vice versa goes a long way in maintaining a great relationship.

Do you believe in marriage?

Marriage is cool. Not a necessity, but if I were in love with the right woman I would take a chance and go for it! I’ve only considered it with one woman in my life.

So it’s definitely safe to say you would need an independent woman?

Yes, I love independent women!  They have a drive and energy that can captivate any man! Infuse that with your own and you have the makings of not only a great relationship but a great partnership as well! Don’t be afraid of strong women fellas!

Are you doing what you dreamed you would be doing as a kid?

Well, as a kid I dreamed of playing in the NBA! I was able to play through college and a little overseas, so basketball was responsible for some amazing experiences.

So when did you become involved with personal fitness?

I became involved in fitness while playing basketball in high school. However, it became a passion after I transferred from F.I.U. and changed my major to Exercise Physiology. The rest is history!

As a personal trainer you are in contact with women all the time, so do you date or have you dated clients?

I do not date clients! Those situations become messy and the lines become blurred between work and play. I have friends in the business that do and I’ve heard their horror stories! Funny thing is, they still do it.  I have dated two former clients and as time passed and I was no longer their trainer. That was some time ago around 2000-3.

When did you begin modeling?

I began modeling in 1998. I took a break in 2002, and then resumed my passion in 2004. I’ve been at it ever since.

Where would you like to take your modeling career besides doing fitness?

I would love to take my modeling career nationwide baby.  I’ve had a few large projects, but the key is consistent work.

Are you interested in acting as well?

I’ve started to focus a little more on acting about two years ago. I believe fitness, modeling, and acting go hand in hand. Last year I really got to see how much work goes into it by working on the show “BURN NOTICE”.  It was a great experience and I learned a lot. I’m up for a speaking role this season so we’ll see what happens.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

Right now, I’m focused on my business, Physiques’N’Weeks Elite Personal Training.   It’s really growing and I’m blessed to have met the people I’m working with now. Not only are they great clients, but they are creating a referral base like no other.  I have several group contracts in the area and I’m waiting on a few high schools to finalize deals to start programs for their athletes. I maintain my private clientele and have submitted a proposal to work with Carlos Boozer of the Chicago Bulls this summer.  I still work with “BURN NOTICE” and have more input with the actors about their diet and fitness. I’m also trying to add to my education with two new certifications: C.S.C.S (Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and CROSSFIT LEVEL 1. The icing on the cake will be getting accepted to The University of Miami for their PhD program in Exercise Physiology. I have a six month plan and right now everything is falling into place.

I am truly thankful for everything including my opportunity with WET MAGAZINE.   Who would have thought that I would be hosting a party on South Beach and winning the cover of this issue! Crazy! It’s all LOVE JoJo!

And we have nothing but love for you Jason.  Please keep us posted and we wish you nothing but continued success with your career.
